Fall Food Habits

Fall is in the air and I don’t mind. Because with autumn comes the promise of exiting food possibilities. The first of these joys was my brother giving me lots of walnuts from his own tree and beautiful Dutch apple pie apples. The apples stem from an old race called ‘Goudreinet’. They are very tart so it’s what you would call a cooking apple I believe. It’s our version of the British Bramley apple. So with this ‘harvest’ we can begin to make the fare that makes me so fond of fall. The pies and crumbles that make no sense in summer but warm your soul before winter arrives.

One of my favorite little cookbooks to get in the autumn mood is the one by Susan Branch: ‘Heart of the Home Autumn’. Men would find this a real girly book with the little drawings and positive quotes. Just take that as a big compliment and celebrate your girlyness I say! So I take a trip to Mrs. Branches Autumn wonderland and dream away for a while between pumpkins, dried flowers and coloured leafs.
